TROUBLESHOOTING MICROPHONE ACCESS ISSUES

Why does Osmo need access to the microphone?

Osmo uses the device microphone to detect what the user is reading/reciting. Without access to the microphone, Osmo can't hear what is being read/recited.

Troubleshooting microphone Access for iPads:

Please follow these steps to reset the microphone permissions:

  1. Open the settings app.
  2. Tap on "General" in the left column.
  3. Tap on "Reset" in the right column.
  4. Tap on "Reset Location & Privacy".

Start the app up again to see if it requests microphone permissions and then gets past the loading screen.

If that doesn't work, you can uninstall and reinstall the app, and when asked to grant microphone access, please answer 'yes.' Alternatively, you could adjust your microphone settings so your device works with the Osmo apps.

Please make sure that the Osmo games are checked under Settings > Privacy > Microphone. Now check that the microphone is not disabled under your restriction settings. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps, if the toggle next to "microphone" is gray then tap the toggle to allow access to the microphone.

The next thing to try is to restart your device and see if the game runs. To do this:

  1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button (a red slider will appear).
  2. Drag the slider to turn your device off.
  3. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until you see the Apple logo and the device is turning on again.

If that does not help, the main cause of these errors we've seen is microphone hardware issues. To check this, do the following:

  1. Start the Camera on your device.
  2. Record a video and speak; Play it back and you should hear yourself speaking; if you see a black screen or the app crashes, there is an issue with your microphone hardware.
